Ten Individuals Apprehended with Narcotics Parcel from America

Kathmandu: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, authorities have arrested ten individuals and seized a substantial quantity of narcotics, including cannabis and brown sugar, which were smuggled into Nepal from the United States through the General Post Office in Dilli Bazaar.

The Narcotics Drugs Control Bureau, Kathmandu, acted on a tip-off, resulting in the arrest of six individuals involved in the distribution of cannabis and four others connected to the delivery of heroin smuggled in from America. These arrests have been made under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, 2033 BS.

Superintendent Chakra Raj Joshi of the Bureau provided details of the operation and stated that the arrestees were taken into custody after cannabis was discovered inside the parcels they were in possession of.

According to the police, a suspicious carton sent from America to be delivered in Birgunj via the General Post Office in Dilli Bazaar was examined, leading to the confiscation of 900 grams of brown sugar. The operation included a "control delivery," during which Dalluram and Habib Miya of Birgunj were apprehended as they arrived to receive the carton parcel.

Additionally, 1,400 grams of cannabis were discovered when another carton, sent from America and intended for the District Post Office in Pokhara via the Dilli Bazaar post office, was inspected. A 24-year-old Indian national named Ajin Vergese, who had come to collect the cannabis, was arrested at the post office. Further investigations led to the seizure of an additional 720 grams of cannabis from his rented room.

Renuka Tamang of Dadeldhura, who had arrived to collect the cannabis parcel sent via post, was also taken into custody. Her statement led to the arrest of Indian nationals Arun Kumar and Mohammad Naeem, who had dispatched her to acquire the contraband. Authorities have confiscated 939 grams of cannabis from this group.

In addition to these arrests, the Bureau reported the apprehension of Hikmat Hamal from Kanchanpur, Sanjaya Nepali from Dang, Binod Bhattarai from Morang, and an Indian citizen named Lal Miya currently residing in Jhapa, all of whom were found in possession of brown sugar. More than 268 grams of brown sugar have been seized from their possession.

This operation is a significant step in the fight against narcotics trafficking in Nepal and highlights the authorities' commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade.
